Changes for me this year.

Now, I know this might be considered quite late to be posting something like this but I'm not calling these new years resolutions as such. These are just personal things I want to adapt or incorporate into my life this year. For me, new years resolutions are things people feel they need to make and then suddenly there is either an intense amount of pressure put on them or they just aren't taken seriously. I always think sometimes people literally make new years resolutions just to say they have some and not much thought goes into it. That's why this post has taken me a little bit of time to write because I actually wanted to think about things a little bit more. Yeah some of them may be cliche but they are parts of my life I need and want to improve.

First things first, this is the cliche one, drink more water.
This is something I feel I need to do not only to benefit myself by being more healthy but for my skin too. If you have read any of my recent posts then you will know skincare this year is a massive aim for me to improve and I am trying new products and reading things constantly to try and find ways to benefit my skin. I know from the past that water helps so much but I have fell into a massive hole of drinking endless cups of tea and coffee and therefore water has been replaced by caffeine, caffeine and more caffeine. Caffeine therefore, makes me bloated and does not only not help my skin but also impacts other sectors which you will read about in a moment. The truth here is I do drink water but I can only really drink water from a bottle. If I go to the gym or to university or work and have a bottle of water with me, I will get through it in seconds but I cannot pour myself a pint of water from the tap and drink it. It just tastes different and I can't bring myself to do it. Please reassure me I am not the only one who notices the difference?! Surely, if I replace at least some of these caffeine with water then I will be saving money as well as helping improve multiple parts of my life. If I drink along with using the skincare products and regimes I have read about then surely my skin will benefit as well as feeling better in myself. Point one, seems a valid and reasonably achievable change to be able to accomplish right?

Secondly, I need to sort out my sleep.
There are so many factors in my life that impact my sleep from the endless cups of caffeine I just mentioned to staring at phone or laptop screens for hours on end. Therefore this year I aim to try and read more and put away my phone or laptop at night and try and sort my sleep out. Sleep is so important and helps to charge your batteries and allows you to wake up feeling like a new person in the morning or at least it is supposed to. I am one of those people who gets in bed and gets lost in a world of YouTube and then I am so awake my brain likes to overthink everything and not switch off for hours, no matter how long I stare at the ceiling for. Therefore, my plan is to read before bed which will hopefully allow me to go to an alternative world and the reading will help to make me fall to sleep so much easier.  I used to read so much when I was younger and could get from cover to cover in a matter of days, you used to literally have to force me to stop reading. Then came the takeover of social media platforms and YouTube became so much more popular that I was swept along into the world where books got replaced. I am currently in the process of writing a whole post about this so I won't go into too much depth here but yes reading is making its way into my 2018.

These are two of what you could consider my, hopefully, realistic and practical goals for the year. Not even goals but aspects of my life that I would like to change slightly to hopefully enable me to feel better within myself this year.

What are your goals or changes you want to make this year?

Much love

  1. Good luck with both of your goals! It's definitely true that water tastes different from a tap than a bottle, you're so right. I've been trying to drink way more so I'm hoping to feel some of the benefits soon, I was like you and drinking way too much caffeine but no proper hydration haha. I hope these things make you feel better! x

  2. It took a kidney infection to kick me up the ass and force me to put more water-drinking into my daily routine - I really wasn't drinking enough. I have found, though, that now that I'm drinking more water, I am feeling less of an urge to drink caffeinated drinks and I'm actually finding myself getting thirsty more frequently. Best of luck, stick at it and it should turn out good :)

  3. Great post. I'm also with you on both of these goals but probably more so on the sleep. I also used to read for about 10 mins before sleeping and found it helped so hope it helps you too. Wishing you well and hope you achieve both of these goals!

  4. Completely relate to both of these! I am terrible for not drinking enough of anything let alone water I really must make more effort . I have recently started reading before bed more and have actually found it helps with my sleeping instead of laying awake looking at my phone.
    Good luck achieving your goals
