Getting a Puppy - Part 1.

So I am embarking on a new adventure and I have decided to document it all for you, incase any of you are thinking of going on this same journey and we can help each other out! For years now I have wanted a puppy. I have always had pets of some sort, whether they were Guinea Pigs or a Rabbit and I've always loved them, this is the first time I have not had one and I haven't half noticed the difference.

Now quick story, we had one before and had to send it back because my sister must of been about 5 and she hated him. I was the most traumatised child ever having to say goodbye to him, for all of your information he went back to his previous owner who then looked after him and raised him.

I have always had such a love for dogs and I have always known that I wanted to have one of my own. I always said that as soon as I get my own place the first thing I would do was get a dog.

GUYS IT IS HAPPENING!

I AM GOING TO BE A MUM!
I AM GETTING A PUPPY!

Now, I have done a lot of research and preparation for getting one and I am beyond excited. I have worked out the best time for me to get one and it is all in motion, the time is right. I have been a visited her a number of times and checked all paperwork, seen both the parents and everything is fine. She is coming from a loving home and has been brought up so far around other dogs and children.

Honestly the first time we went to see her, I had in my head that I wanted a black puppy, we got there and all fell in love with the Fawn one. I have NEVER seen anything so small in all my life! She could literally lie in my hands she was that tiny. The first time all she did was sleep but then she is now trying to walk and it is so cute! They keep falling over, it is just adorable.

I have also majorly looked into the fact that, yes I know she will be hard work, but they are so beneficial for a person to have too. They help release stress and they also help to keep a person active. I have had a lot going on in my life personally and through seeking help they also reassured me how beneficial a dog would be, it would give me a purpose. I get to put my all into something that relies on me and they give you unconditional love what else could you want?

OHHHH forgot to tell you what breed of dog I am getting....I AM GETTING A PUG

Now I have already research all the potential health risks and everything and I am completely prepared. I know Pug's are a really love or hate type of dog and that everyone has their own opinion of them but I find them adorable. ALSO I AM NOT GETTING ONE FOR HER TO BE A FASHION ACCESSORY! She fits my lifestyle perfectly and her care needs are going to be fully fulfilled as I am going to be around enough to give her everything she needs. I have looked into how pugs need to be cleaned, because they have wrinkles they need to be cleaned properly and also they can easily put on weight so their food needs to be weighed out and you can't overfeed them. With Pugs it also says to use harnesses and not leads due to the fact they can have breathing problems and the collars can pull on their necks and restrict this even more. The research and preparation is always ongoing and I am always finding new tips for looking after her but everyone does things their own way too so some things end up contradicting.

I am still living at home and even though she is going to be my dog, my family are completely and utterly supportive and have all managed to fall in love with her too. I honestly can't wait for her to come home. I am in that stage that every Mum goes through of buying so much stuff. I have probably brought too much of everything but you can never be over prepared right?! Literally I think I love shopping for her more than I love shopping for myself.

Pictures of her and a breakdown of everything I have brought for her will be in Part 2 of this journey when she gets to come home. Most of the supplies I have brought for her so far are from Pets at Home (where I am now a VIP; Very Important Pets card holder, I was so excited haha), B&M and also Poundland! For items like blankets and even leads, things that you might need several of or that would need replacing Poundland has a good range to choose from.

As you can tell this post is all excited and hyped up lets see how Part 2 will follow whether I will still be as enthusiastic, I bet I will be!!
Honestly I am so excited for this new part of my life.
Let me know what kind of dogs you have and how you prepared?
OR if you have any advice for new puppy owners.

Much love

  3. Awww this is so exciting! Good luck with your wee pup! They're hard work but so rewarding! Make sure though that you stick to the rules you want the pup to live by for its whole life cause if you're slack when it's a pup you don't stand a chance of changing things when it's older! (My Lan thinks he rules the house🙈) looking forward to seeing how you get on!

  5. So happy for you - getting a new puppy is the best! The hard work kicks in the minute they are comfortable enough to do their first poo aha! It is really tough at the start in particular but so so worth it in the long run. Can't wait to see your updates on this!
